We love cooking and using our kitchen appliances, but not the mess which inevitably comes with it. Below are 4 hacks to make your life easier in the kitchen.
1) The Scrap Bowl
Imitation is a form of flattery. So why not copy what the star chefs do in their kitchens to also make our lives easier? One of our favorites to emulate? Rachael Ray.
We’ve watched Rachael Ray do this for years. Place a bowl (with a plastic bag inside) on your countertop as you’re cooking to collect all those peelings, plastic wrappers, etc. so that you don’t have to keep on walking back and forth to the trash can.
Cooking has never been more streamlined.
2) Bring Out the Blender
What would we do without our blender? From chopping to pureeing to mixing, is there anything that our blender can't do? Well actually there is...self-clean. While a self-cleaning button would be nice, here's an easy way to clean your blender that doesn't require much work on your part:
Add warm water to your blender so that it is 1/4 full, put in 1/4 teaspoon of liquid dishwashing soap, and throw in 4 ice cubes (the ice will work to clean the blades). Then run your blender on high for one minute and rinse.
Guess who'll be using the blender even more often now?
3) Messy Microwaves No More
Can you imagine life without a microwave? We certainly can’t.
As much as we love our microwave, we hate the mess that all of that food can leave behind (spatters, spills, etc.). While we should clean the messes up as soon as they occur, the reality is that life happens and our attention gets diverted. Which means stubborn food stains in the microwave to deal with later. Here is a handy-dandy tip to effortlessly clean microwaves:
1) Fill a microwave-safe bowl with water and run the microwave for about 45 seconds or so or until the water boils (the steam will help to loosen those stubborn food stains).
2) Proceed to clean the microwave as usual (caution: the bowl will be hot).
Full steam ahead.
4) A Natural Stain Remover For Food-Stained Hands
One minute you’re chopping, dicing, and preparing. And the next you're scrubbing your hands in a futile attempt to remove food stains (think strawberries, blackberries, etc.). Guess you’re stuck with stained hands?
Not so fast. Rubbing the food stains on your hands with a slice of raw potato will help to lift those stains in a jiffy (thanks to the starch in the potato).
