New home; tried to do a "change of address", but postal service doesn't recognize new address. What do I do?
Q. Just bought a new home, the only one on a newly constructed side street off of a main road. I tried to do an address change online, but the new address isn't being recognized by US Postal Service system. The builder listed the house under this new address, so why doesn'tt the postal service recognize it and is there anything I can do to make this address exist for the postal service? The mail carrier that comes by here doesn't know what I need to do.

A. I would say that your new address is not yet in the address system for the Post Office, especially since you say that it is a new street and the first house on it. Talk to your local PO and ask them to add your street and number range. It shouldn't take too many days for address management to get it added to the carriers scheme and then the system will recognize the new address.

What is the hiring process of the postal service?
Q. I know about the test, but what else is involved when you're being hired for the postal service? Is it like firefighting, with a physical test, oral board, background check, etc?

A. From my own experience, after I took a Civil Service Test (required for a government job, which the Postal Service is classified), I had to wait for the results of course. When I learned I passed it, I had to wait for the job offers to come in the mail (several did, for everything BUT the Postal Service for quite a while). I didn't need the things you mentioned, but I took the test over 30 years ago, so things have probably changed. Talk to your local post-master and ask how to go about it. He/she should be able to tell you what's required. The article on Wikipedia is also a good one.

A. Everybody knows the postal service is slow ! But be patient, they eventually deliver... just not always on time. Rain, sleet, snow or hail... Maybe you should call the post office personnel dept and ask for advice. Good Luck.
